Rural
communities can make considerable gains through the formation of
Community and Development Trusts.
• Project activity: There is
an impressive range of project activity and added value that would
not have happened without effective community development and capacity
building.
• Creating neighbourhood partnerships
and local community planning typically brings in other partners
and helps build partnership, which in turn amplifies activity.
• Stronger communities: community
organisations and their capacity to influence decisions, access
services, draw down funding and deliver projects mean some of the
delivery "burden" is removed from mainstream service providers.
• Finance raised for future activities:
Trusts (after training and empowerment) are effective at getting
funding and identifying potential future sources.
• Improved confidence and self-esteem:
increased confidence within neighbourhoods and critically changed
behaviour by mainstream partners.
